Who is eligible to participate in the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge?

Community members between the ages of 8 to 30 years are eligible to participate in the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge. Age will be determined as on 1 June 2020.


Can I participate as an Individual or a group? How many participants are allowed in a group submission?

Participants can register individually or as a group. A maximum of FIVE participants are allowed in a group submission.


Who can I submit a group submission with?

We recommend that participants doing a group submission be of the same age group. If participants do submit a cross age group submission, the submission will be judged based on the evaluation criteria of the eldest participant in the group.


How many submissions are permitted?

Each participant is allowed up to TWO submissions, one individual and one group submission.


How do I submit my work for the Open Innovation Challenge?

Please refer to the Participant Handbook to learn more about the format of submission.


Can I change my submission after I submit it?

No, the work may not be changed after submission unless requested by the Organising Team.


Does my submission for IDE8 need to be an original work?

Yes, plagiarism is strictly not permitted.


Can I make submissions to multiple challenges?

One submission can be a solution for multiple challenges. Solutions can relate to several subject areas, however, participants can only pick one challenge only when submitting.


In which language should my submission be made?

All submissions for the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge should be in English.


Is there a fee to take part in the Open Innovation Challenge?

There are no fees applicable.


What is the Evaluation Criteria for submission?

Please refer to the appropriate Programme Guidelines for your age group to know more about the Evaluation Criteria.


What is the time commitment for the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge?

Each participant will spend in the range of 8 to 10 hours over the course of the Programme for participating in all the Webinars. Additional time commitment towards planning and preparation of Final Submission varies depending on the individual participant or group.


What happens if I miss a Content Webinar session?

All Content Webinars will be recorded and will be shared with the participants. Please note there may be a time gap between the live session and the recordings becoming available for participants. We encourage all participants to attend the online Content Webinars.


Do I need to sign a waiver form?

Yes, all participants are required to sign a waiver form. Participants below the age of 21 years, will need to have their waiver forms signed by a parent/guardian at the time of registration.


Are there limitations on what content I can submit for the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge?

All content must be deemed appropriate for audiences of all ages.

Following are some examples of content that would not be considered appropriate for the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge:

  • Submissions that include content relating to the practice of the faith will not be permitted at the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge. Any content that has Ismaili Centre images or videos, should first take permission of the National Council Communications member.
  • Images of the Mawlana Hazar Imam and his family
  • Personal Standard of Mawlana Hazar Imam, Imamat Crest, Ismaili Flag, Nashid al-Imamah, Taj, Volunteer Badge, Jubilee Logos, AKDN and other Institutional logos
  • Clear images of children (under 18 years) without the documented consent of a parent or legal guardian
  • Foul or offensive images or language (e.g., nudity, excessive violence, sexually suggestive images or language, profanity)
  • Subliminal messages to inappropriate or offensive statements
  • Sexually suggestive or other provocative language/content
  • Content that has implied meanings/messages that are deemed inappropriate

This is not a complete list. Please note that the IDE8 Organising Team reserves the right to disqualify a submission that is considered inappropriate, even if it is not mentioned in the above list.


Does my submission for the IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge need to be an original work?

Yes. Participants should ensure that his/her idea/submission is original. All contributors need to be identified in the Submission Form. Ideas sourced from elsewhere need to be cited in the Final Submission.


What happens if a participant plagiarises the work of another?

Plagiarism is strictly not permitted in any way, shape or form. If the IDE8 Organizing Team or Judges learn at any time that the participant responsible for submitting an entry was not the original creator of the work that he/she claims he/she created or plagiarised the work in any way, the participant will be disqualified from participation in IDE8 Open Innovation Challenge.
