Last month (October 2021), Ismaili CIVIC Leicester ran a donation drive with Leicester Jamatkhana to collect arts-related items, for distribution across eight Children’s wards within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

Mawlana Hazar Imam’s guidance on building bridges to understand and learn from one another, and his emphasis on local participation in the promotion of peace and pluralism served as an inspiration for two recent initiatives held in Georgia, USA.

Global Ismaili Civic Day (GICD)  in Mozambique during the weekend of 24-26 September 2021 included 4 donation initiatives including Food, Clothes, Blood and Hygiene Kits.

On the weekend of 25th and 26th September, the Shia Ismaili Muslim community from around the world came together, united, to mark our inaugural Global Ismaili CIVIC Day. 

We are pleased to share that on the afternoon of Thursday 7th October, President Naushad Jivraj along with volunteers and representatives of the Ismaili CIVIC team were invited to attend City Hall in London to meet the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to present our Ismaili CIVIC pledge of undertaking 100,000 hours of voluntary service.

This first ever Global Ismaili CIVIC Day was celebrated across 30 countries around the world on 25th and 26 September 2021.  Volunteers from the Jamat have pledged hundreds of thousands of hours to improve the quality of life of the communities in which they live, exemplifying universal values of service, peace and compassion.

Singapore’s Ismaili Community, today partnered to provide 250 potted plants to the Moulmein- Cairnhill community in commemoration of the World Health Environmental Day.

Ismaili CIVIC UK is proud to announce that it will be celebrating Global Ismaili CIVIC Day (GICD) on the weekend of 25 and 26 September 2021, uniting our Jamat from across 21 jurisdictions, covering 40 countries.

Since the global launch of the Ismaili CIVIC initiative last year, volunteers from the worldwide Jamat have made a significant positive impact in the areas of health, education, economic development, environmental stewardship, and cultural restoration. To build on this momentum, the inaugural Global Ismaili CIVIC Day will take place on 26 September 2021.

Through the ‘Darakht se Hayat’ initiative, members of the Jamat worked with community partners to plant over 162,000 trees across Pakistan.

In a recent poem by Jordan Sanchez, Reimagine, Recreate, Restore, she reminds us, “We are a fraction of a second in Earth’s lifetime, yet she is our only lifeline.” In an effort to align with this thinking, Ismaili youth, governmental and civil society institutions, and AKDN agencies in Pakistan are working hand-in-hand to reimagine our lifestyles, recreate our approaches, and restore our ecosystems.
