Mawlana Hazar Imam signs a protocol agreement with Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni between AKDN and the Government of Bangladesh, as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina looks on.

Dhaka, Bangladesh, 16 September 2013 – An agreement was signed between the Aga Khan Development Network and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh today, that will work towards improving the quality of life of the people of Bangladesh.

The 2013 ceremony of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture will take place on 6 September in Lisbon, Portugal, and will be broadcast live on the AKDN website starting at 8:30 PM Lisbon time (7:30 PM GMT). The website also includes detailed profiles of the projects that are shortlisted for this year's award, as well as information about winners from past years.

Lisbon, 7 September 2013 – Mawlana Hazar Imam is in Portugal for the 12th cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, which was presented yesterday at Lisbon’s São Jorge Castle. As part of his visit Hazar Imam also held meetings with a number of senior Portuguese officials, and presided over the signing ceremony of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding between the Catholic University of Portugal and the Aga Khan University.

Geneva, Switzerland, 31 August 2013 – Mawlana Hazar Imam’s eldest son, Prince Rahim and Ms Kendra Salwa Spears were married in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier today. 

In "The Harmony Project", musicians perform a medley of spiritual music combining the instruments as diverse as the sitar and the electro-acoustic guitar.

The Harmony Project premiered before audiences at the Ismaili Centre, London on 13 and 14 April 2013. Written, directed and performed by members of the United Kingdom Jamat, the theatrical production follows the story of a group of fictional characters from completely different backgrounds, brought together to create a show.

During a recent on-stage conversation held at the Ismaili Centre, Burnaby, Dr Farhad Daftary spoke about what motivated him to abandon his doctoral pursuits in Economics in the 1960s in order to seek out a future in Ismaili studies. The dialogue took place as part of a book launch for a recently published collection of scholarly perspectives on areas of Ismaili history and thought titled Fortresses of the Intellect.

Governor of Gaza Province, Raimundo Diomba, receives a donation of food and cooking utensils for flood victims in Chibuto District, delivered by representatives of the AKDN and the Ismaili community.

When heavy January rains caused massive flooding in south and central Mozambique, the Ismaili community and the institutions of the Ismaili Imamat quickly mobilized a response. A donation of food, medicine, tools, and supplies was assembled to help the Government of Mozambique support victims, volunteers and military forces who were providing assistance on the ground.

The Far East Jamat had an opportunity to experience Treasures of the Aga Khan Museum – Architecture in Islamic Arts, a special exhibition of the Aga Khan Museum Collection that visited Malaysia and Singapore last year. The exhibitions also provided an opportunity for the Jamat to reach out and share Ismaili culture and values with the wider public.

Nairobi, 29 November 2012 – Mawlana Hazar Imam and Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga marked the signing of an important agreement between the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Government of Kenya to rehabilitate Nairobi City Park. The 60-hectare heritage site is a natural preserve and an important cultural asset whose restoration can contribute to improving quality of life in the busy urban centre.

The building, situated on a parcel of land in Arusha town, houses the EAC Secretariat, the East African Legislative Assembly and the East African Court of Justice.

Edmonton, 24 October 2012 – Mawlana Hazar Imam and Alberta Premier Alison Redford signed an Agreement of Cooperation today between the Ismaili Imamat and the Government of Alberta. The agreement facilitates further collaboration in the areas of health sciences, education, the environment, forestry and natural resources management, culture, and private sector and economic development.

Arriving in Edmonton, Mawlana Hazar Imam is welcomed by Alberta Chief of Protocol Betty Anne Spinks, Minister Ken Hughes, Ismaili Council President Malik Talib, and Vice-President Moez Rajwani.
