The main entrance hall of the Ismaili Centre, Dubai draws architectural inspiration from Fatimid mosques. At the centre of the colourfully patterned marble floor is an ornamental fountain crafted from a solid block of Carrara marble.

Hazar Imam was accompanied at the ceremony by Princess Zahra and Prince Rahim. Following the opening of the Ismaili Centre, Mawlana Hazar Imam inaugurated the Dubai Park, located adjacent to the Centre. Presented as a gift from Hazar Imam to the City of Dubai, the 3 000 square metre park was developed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

The main entrance hall dome is a visual marvel that rises in a series of arches and corbels upon which the brick dome culminates at its apex.

This is an early image of the Carlton Tower,  opened in 1977 as Dubai's first five-star hotel. Surrounding the hotel are the first few multiple storey buildings in Bur Deira.

Born in 1929 in the port of Gwadar, Noor Ali Rashid was sent to Dubai by his father, who hoped to cure him of his interest in photography – a distraction from the family business. Instead, through the lens of his camera, Rashid bore witness to the unfolding of a new country.

Starting with an inaugural flag-raising ceremony at the Ismaili Centre, Imamat Day in the UAE was celebrated with enthusiatic creativity. The Souq al-Izhar exhibition invited members of the Jamat to express themselves artistically on a variety of themes.

Following the opening of the Ismaili Centre Dubai, thousands of members of the Jamat enjoyed memorable and informative guided tours of the new Centre.
