Lisbon's renowned Parque das Nações will host the weeklong Diamond Jubilee Celebration.

Thousands of Ismailis from Jamats around the world have gathered in Lisbon, Portugal for the launch of an historic celebration, to mark the conclusion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee. 

Pátio Mela will act as a central hub of the DJC, and provides a space to celebrate diversity, creativity, and community, to be open during the day and night. The space will be spread across indoor and outdoor areas. This video illustrates the atmosphere of creativity, diversity, and unity, that will be experienced in Pátio Mela.

The Jubilee Arts Festivals, held in countries across the world and culminating in the International Arts Festival in Lisbon in the coming days, have engaged the creative talent of the global Jamat for the past year. This is the first undertaking of its kind, bringing together Ismailis from around the world to celebrate art, film, photography, dance, music, and other forms of artistic expression.

From Toronto to Tajikistan, and from Mumbai to Maputo, Ismailis from around the world are set to visit Portugal this July to celebrate Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee as one global Jamat. Let’s take a look back at the history of the Jamat in Portugal, and also look ahead to the important milestones that will take place in Portugal in the coming months and years.

The Aga Khan Centre was opened by HRH the Prince of Wales in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam on 26 June 2018, at an inauguration ceremony to coincide with Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee visit to the UK. Mawlana Hazar Imam was joined by Prince Amyn, Princess Zahra, Prince Rahim, Princess Salwa, Prince Hussain, and Prince Aly Muhammad, for a momentous occasion in the history of the Ismaili Imamat and the global Jamat.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in London on 25 June 2018 for his Diamond Jubilee visit to the United Kingdom. Upon his arrival, Mawlana Hazar Imam was received by Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the United Nations, Liakat Hasham, President of the Ismaili Council for the UK, and other Jamati leaders. Following a military salute, the Royal Imperial Military Band played the Nashid al-Imamah and the British National Anthem.
