In Muslim tradition, Ramadan is a time of heightened commitment to piety and purification through special observances such as fasting, the performance of good deeds – including charitable giving and voluntary service – and through personal sacrifices of material comforts. These observances can lead to spiritual fulfilment and a sense of renewal.
One of the many devotional practices Muslims observe at various points of the year is fasting (sawm). Muslims have different ways of fasting, including all forms of self-restraint. This includes not eating and drinking, feeding a poor person, being absorbed in the remembrance of God, avoiding gossip or saying mean things, not being greedy with one’s eyes or mouth, showing humility, and the purification of oneself.

No passado domingo, dia 3 de março, mais de 150 voluntários reuniram-se no Centro Ismaili, Lisboa, para a Formação Geral - Ismaili Volunteers de Portugal.
Sous la direction de notre bien-aimé Mawlana Hazar Imam, notre Jamat est maintenant une communauté multiculturelle, diverse et globalisée, établie dans plus de 25 pays à travers le monde. Une communauté tournée vers l'avenir, respectée et acclamée. Mais quelle est notre expérience de cette globalisation du Jamat dans notre vie quotidienne ? Sommes-nous vraiment conscients de la richesse que représente la diversité de nos cultures, de nos traditions et de notre patrimoine ? Quelle force et inspiration nouvelles pourrions-nous puiser dans l’interaction avec la communauté globale que nous sommes aujourd'hui ? Et comment notre présent façonnera-t-il le Jamat de demain ? Ce sont des questions importantes auxquelles nous pourrions prendre quelques minutes pour réfléchir. Parce que nous sommes One Jamat, et que l'héritage et l'avenir de notre Jamat reposent maintenant sur notre génération. C’est une lourde responsabilité.
On Sunday, March 3, 2024, the youngest awarded Nobel laureate and renowned advocate for girls’ education Malala Yousafzai visited the Ismaili Jamatkhana Harvest Green in Richmond, Texas located around the corner from Malala Yousafzai Elementary School. Malala commented on educational initiatives championed by the Malala Fund and Zindagi Trust, an educational non-profit organization in Pakistan. Shehzad Roy, the CEO of Zindagi Trust and a famous Ismaili Muslim Pakistani singer was also in attendance at the event accompanied by his wife Dr. Salma Alam, and son Sikander Roy.

Did you know that for every donation (470ml) you can save the lives of 3 people? On March 2nd, the Ismaili CIVIC Blood Donation campaign was held at the Ismaili Centre, Lisbon. On March 21st, Ismaili Muslims around the world celebrate the festival of Navroz (Nowruz), which marks the first day of Spring and the beginning of a new year. On the occasion of its celebrations, an event will take place on March 16th, after the religious ceremonies, at the Ismaili Center, Lisbon, and at the Jamatkhana in Seixal.
