Viva Lab is a production laboratory that promotes a culture of Education, Design and Innovation, transforming thoughts into actions, putting into practice the development of solutions to local problems that can be scaled up, reproduced and exported globally, creating innovation clusters and seeking out local and international talent. Find out more about the synergy between Viva Lab and the Aga Khan Foundation.

At the beginning of December, the Serra da Minas Market hosted Viva Lab from Porto, which organised the Sustainable Design Sprint.
This is a five-day programme that trains technicians to recycle plastic. All the participants had the opportunity to learn how to transform plastic waste into useful products such as baskets, vases, lampshades, jewellery, candle holders and kitchen utensils.
All these products were created with a storytelling narrative on the theme of Sintra, appealing to its history and culture. It was an event full of creativity, connection and passion, using plastic as a raw material for conversion.

The Sustainable Design Sprint is an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation that boosts creative tools in products or services design, strengthening skills in a creative and innovative way for non-designers, with expressiveness and impact on the market. It cultivates the discovery of creative and entrepreneurial talent in the different areas of the creative industries and invests in strengthening skills in the following project steps: conception, prototyping and the market.
