On June 2, the President of the Aga Khan University, Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, will share with the Jamat important aspects of the work being done by this institution. We invite all the Jamat to join us!

Established in 1983 during the Silver Jubilee of Mawlana Hazar Imam, the Aga Khan University is a pioneering institution of higher learning whose mission is to improve the quality of life in the developing world and beyond through world-class teaching, research, and healthcare. AKU trains students to be local and global leaders in university clusters and hospitals, mainly in Asia and Africa. The University generates new knowledge to solve problems that affect millions of people, especially the most vulnerable. AKU achieves international benchmarks of quality and raises the standards and aspirations of the countries in which it works. In partnership with governments and private sector organizations, it works to build a world that values pluralism, encourages civil society initiatives, and provides opportunities for all.

On the occasion of AKU's 40th anniversary last March 16, President Shahabuddin said "A new AKU is being born. What will it be like? It will be broader in scope, with new capacities in the humanities, social and natural sciences. It will be bigger and more international, with major new programs and facilities in East Africa. It will be increasingly recognized globally for its cutting-edge research and knowledge."

To tell us a little more about AKU's new projects and vision for the future Dr Shahabuddin will deliver a presentation, followed by a Q&A session, on 2 June at 8.30 pm at the Ismaili Centre's Social Hall, followed by a coffee break.

AKU's expansion encompasses projects in the area of climate change and the environment and also includes growing partnerships with Portuguese institutions in a range of disciplines, from medical research and healthcare to research on Muslim civilizations. In Portugal, AKU has already developed partnerships with renowned institutions like Universidade Católica and Universidade Nova.

The presentation will also present opportunities available for our youth and students from around the world to be part of AKU's mission through programs such as internships and a wide variety of academic programs.
