Jubilee Arts was inaugurated during the commemoration of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee and consists of three anchor programmes: The International Art Gallery (IAG), the International Film Festival (IFF) and the International Performing Arts Showcase (IPAS). The Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan will host regional and national qualifiers as part of the National Arts Festival 2023, leading up to Jubilee Arts at the Global Encounters Festival in 2024.

These programmes seek to promote the arts and showcase artistic excellence from the Jamat. Furthermore, these programmes provide an opportunity for self-expression and discourse through creative expression.

These platforms are meant to inspire and engage new and aspiring artists, as well as seasoned, accomplished and world-class artists alike, creating organic opportunities for mentorship and collaboration. Further details can be found on the link below:

International Art Gallery (IAG)

The International Art Gallery will be a purpose-built gallery showcasing visual art by talented Artists from around the world. It will be curated and displayed in a formal, high-quality setting. The International Art Gallery aims to encourage an appreciation for art within the Jamat by providing a visual platform to experience the diversity of thought, cultures, media, and contexts. The IAG will also feature a new Youth category to elevate and inspire skilled Youth Artists.

International Film Festival (IFF)

The International Film Festival will provide a grand platform for exceptional directors and producers from around the world to showcase the global culture of filmmaking. It will be a space to celebrate the collaborative efforts of the various components of filmmaking including production, direction, writing, motion graphics, animation, storytelling, scoring and acting. The IFF will also feature a new Youth category to elevate and inspire skilled Youth Artists.

International Performing Arts Showcase (IPAS)

The International Performing Arts Showcase seeks to uncover and present the best talent from across the world and will also feature a new Youth category to elevate and inspire skilled Youth Artists.

It will feature the following four submission categories:

• Vocal Music
• Instrumental Music
• Dance
• Creative Arts (Acting, Monologues, Narrative Storytelling, Spoken Word, Stand-up Comedy, Martial Arts, Magic, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Who is eligible to participate as an artist at the GE Festival?

Ismailis and their multi-faith spouses and children are eligible to participate as artists at the GE Festival.

2. May an individual participate in both Jubilee Arts and Jubilee Games?

Individuals attending the GE Festival may only represent their country in ONE area and must choose either Jubilee Arts or Jubilee Games.

3. How old do I have to be to participate as an artist at the GE Festival?

There is no minimum age to participate as an artist at the regional, national or international GE Festival. The programme offers both youth and open categories for submissions.
Note: Any artist under the age of 18 as of 31 May 2024 will be considered an artist in the youth category and must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times during the GE Festival.

4. May I make submissions to multiple categories?

Only one submission per artist per category will be permitted at Jubilee Arts. Regional and National Arts Festivals may allow more than one submission.

5. May I change my submission after I submit it?

No. The work may generally not be updated after submission, unless requested by the GE Organising Team. In the case of films, non-substantial refinements may be submitted up to the first qualifying round of the National Festival.
Note: All updates require the approval of the GE Organising Team.

6. In which language should my submission be made?

Your submission may be in any language you choose it to be. All submissions selected to be displayed as part of the GE Festival should also be translated into the English language. Artists may do so with the support of the jurisdiction’s National Arts Coordinator.

7. May I represent more than one National Council jurisdiction at the GE Festival?

No. An artist may only represent one National Council jurisdiction at the GE Festival.

8. May films that were submitted at a previous Jubilee Arts Festival be submitted again?

No. Films submitted to previous Regional, National or International Jubilee Arts Film Festivals may not be submitted again.

9. Are there limitations on what content I can submit at the GE Festival?

All content must be deemed appropriate for audiences of all ages. Following are some examples of content that would not be considered appropriate for the GE Festival:

  • Images of the Imams or Mawlana Hazar Imam's family
  • Personal Standard of Mawlana Hazar Imam, Imamat Crest, Ismaili Flag, Nashid al-Imamah, Taj, Volunteer Badge, Jubilee Logos, AKDN and other Institutional logos
  • Clear images of children (under 18) without the documented consent of a parent or legal guardian
  • Foul or offensive images or language (e.g., nudity, excessive violence, sexually suggestive images or language, profanity)
  • Subliminal messages to inappropriate or offensive statements
  • Sexually suggestive or other provocative dance moves
  • Content that has implied meanings/messages that are deemed inappropriate

10. Must I own the film being submitted to the International Film Festival (IFF)?

You may submit a film that you do not own, provided you:
a) Played a significant role in the production of the film (i.e.: Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Composer, Lead actor, etc.)
b) Confirm that you have permission from the owner (copyright holder) prior to submitting the film to the Jubilee Arts Festival. You may be asked to provide proof of written permission from the owner.

11. Must all content in the film be created by myself or the owner of the film?

No. However, any third-party content (i.e., stock footage, photos, graphics, audio, etc.) included in the film must have permission from the original copyright holder of that content. You may be asked to provide proof of written permission from the copyright holder of the third-party content.

12. How do I learn more about copyright?

13. Does a submission for International Performing Arts Showcase (IPAS) need to be an original work?

No. Artists are not required to create an original performance for IPAS. Artists may perform music, poetry, songs, dance styles and other performances that were created by others. However, artists must obtain all necessary licenses and permissions from the authors of the work. Artists must provide evidence of these permissions upon request. Credit must be given to the creators and owners of all performances.
