Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently completed a trip to Pakistan, where they visited a number of AKDN projects. One stop on their tour of the country was Lahore. As a vital part of the Mughal Empire, Lahore was famed as one of the world’s most cultured cities. Since 2007, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Government of Punjab have strived to reinstate this historical legacy.

The Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan (AKYSBP) held the 6th Guides Commissioner’s Conference from the 18th to 20th of October 2019, primarily aiming to discuss the milestones achieved in the past year. Catering to 42 Ismaili Guide Commissioners from Pakistan, the annual conference not only established the leaders’ strategic direction but also conducted various capacity-building sessions to help them translate their vision to every area and process.

To commemorate this auspicious day, the Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board (AKYSB) for Southern Region organised a mural painting activity in the city of Karachi. Members of the Ismaili community, known for their community spirit and positive contributions to society, observed the national day with great zeal.

Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network and TechScape Pvt. Ltd., established by the Alumni of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School in Gilgit, organised the first ever Tech Fair in Gilgit-Baltistan. A series of boot camps were held in three districts of Gilgit-Baltistan including Gilgit, Ghizer and Hunza. More than 140 students, representing 30 schools, participated in the Tech Fair 2019 including, but not limited to, jamati members who were top position holders of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary Schools. 12 projects with brilliant ideas were displayed by 37 students amongst which the top five were awarded contractual awards by Accelerate Prosperity Pakistan.

Four young Ismailis from Pakistan have been appointed onto the 33-member National Youth Council (NYC) recently established by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. The council’s mandate is to work for the upliftment of Pakistani youth and influence national policy and decision-making. Its members are prominent figures from various fields including Education, Sports, Religion, Economics, and the Arts.

The Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan (AKYSB,P) has launched its first Football Club in Pakistan. Since 2018, sports such as cycling, volleyball, winter sports and blind cricket are amongst the various clubs that have been initiated by AKYSB,P. The objective of initiating the various sports clubs was to give a platform to the talented youth of the Jamat in professional sports and to help them excel at the national and international level.

On May 14, Sirbaz Khan became the first Pakistani climber to summit Mount Lhotse in Nepal without the use of supplementary oxygen. Lhotse is the world’s fourth highest mountain at 8,516 meters, after Mount Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga. This short video recounts his journey so far; one of aspiration, joy, struggle, and hope.
