Ethics in Action, a multi-dimensional exhibition illustrating the work of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), has been touring the United States the last few months.

In March, the exhibition was hosted at key government sites—the Georgia State Capitol and Houston City Hall—paralleling the work of the AKDN to the work being done by the Ismaili community in these regions.

During sessions of the Georgia legislature, Senator David Shafer and Representative Meagan Hanson congratulated the Ismaili community in Georgia on the Diamond Jubilee of His Highness the Aga Khan and acknowledged 60 years of His Highness the Aga Khan’s humanitarian work for the improvement of the human condition.

“What impresses me the most is the fact that wherever Ismailis live, you are so interested and willing to give back. The philanthropic effort and readiness of the AKDN and the Ismaili community is truly grand,” said Representative Hanson as she thanked the community for bringing the exhibit to the State Capitol.

The exhibition is now on display at the Houston City Hall in Texas, at the invitation of Mayor Sylvester Turner. Ethics in Action comes at a unique time as Mawlana Hazar Imam is currently visiting Houston as part of the Diamond Jubilee Mulaqats.

During Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit with officials including Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, the exemplary ethics and commitment to volunteerism of the Ismaili community have been a focal point in conversation.

“I don’t think there has ever been a more profound example of volunteerism as we saw the way our fellow Texans responded in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. And so it’s heartening, if you would, to see these fundamental core principles that we have, that we share, that we each seek to advance,” said Governor Abbott.

With the Ethics in Action exhibition just a few blocks down from the Mulaqat activities in downtown Houston, the presence and impact of the Ismaili community in the city has been very prominent over the last several weeks.
