First formally established in Karachi and Mumbai in 1919, the Ismaili Volunteer Corps (IVC) was honoured by Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah by way of authorization for the use of his own crest, the Taj, as its emblem in 1920, which marked the initiation of the tradition of uniformed volunteer service in the Jamat.

Months of consultations amongst Jamati leadership and grassroots volunteers took place to ensure compliance with the defined principles outlined for voluntary service. These principles are inspired by Mawlana Hazar Imam’s guidance which aims “to bring about standardization and parity in the various elements relating to the organization of the uniformed volunteers, without compromising their spirit of service.”

The occasion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s 66th Imamat Day marks the launch of the new Ismaili Volunteers structure in Pakistan. The new outfits have been introduced at Darkhana Jamatkhana in Karachi. With a phased approach, the new structure of Ismaili Volunteers will be initially rolled out in three regions of Pakistan with the goal of covering all eight regions by the end of this year.
