The gift comprises a pair of porcelain vases made in the nineteenth century in Paris, decorated with elaborate Islamic Persian motifs of gilt scrollwork, arabesques, and stylised flowers in heightened relief against a pale lavender background.
Striking yet elegant, the vases were made in 1874 at the Sèvres factory, the preeminent porcelain manufacturer in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Designed by the renowned Parisian sculptor Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, the slender-shaped vases, each of which is 55 cm in height, are in extremely fine condition.
The lavender colour of the vases is extremely unusual – changing according to the light under which it is placed, from purple/grey in daylight to pale pink in artificial light. While similar vases in blue and white can be found in private and museum collections, vases in this pale lavender colour are exceptionally rare.
In accepting the gift submitted in person by Jamati leaders on behalf of the global Jamat, Mawlana Hazar Imam expressed his immense happiness and appreciation. Hazar Imam asked the leaders to inform the Jamat that he is very happy and will cherish the gift as a memento of this very special occasion.
At this time, Mawlana Hazar Imam most graciously conveyed to the global Jamat his best blessings for the Jamat’s security, safety, good health, and mushkil-asan.
Today, Salgirah is being commemorated in every country where the Jamat lives. Regional and local celebrations are taking place online and in person where permitted, alongside a diverse variety of specially commissioned shows airing on The Ismail TV for the global Jamat to enjoy.
