ECD Centres were setup and operating since 2014 with mentors trained across the country so that our young Jamat families can get access to the top quality ECD tips and guidance as set centrally and globally to all Ismaili families across the globe.

The global response to COVID-19 has changed daily life in many ways for many people. Yet child development has not stopped, and supporting children, families, and care givers is as important as ever for ECD Mozambique: 

Let’s take a glance on how the youngest learners in our community are polished.

This is a parental involvement program for 0 to 3 years old children. This program is created with the underlying principles of positive, informed, active and regular involvement of parents, to provide information and support to families to help them become actively involved in helping their children realizes their full potential.

VISION / OBJECTIVES

Empower parents for the optimum development of their children within the context of Islamic humanism in their homes and communities; foster children’s physical, social, cognitive, aesthetic and spiritual development within a holistic environment resulting in healthy, confident, independent, empathetic, intellectually curious, creative and ethical human beings who embrace pluralism. Provide early intervention and give the child a head start.

Why ECD PROGRAM?

  • Early experiences clearly influence brain development;
  • Early intervention programs can improve the odds for vulnerable children;
  • How young children feel is as important as how they think;
  • Healthy early development depends on nurturing and dependable relationships;
  • Culture, child-rearing beliefs and practices; 
  • Nutrition, specific infections, environmental neurotoxins, drug exposures, and chronic stress;
  • Significant parent mental health problems, substance abuse and family violence.

HOW DOES ECD SERVE PARENTS?

  • Facilitators provide timely delivery of age specific information through monthly visits by trained facilitators in groups of similar age bands. Each group of families with children within the same age is served by a specific facilitator who follows them until the child is reaches his/her third birthda
  • Technical Content on social, emotional, language, cognitive and motor development.
  • Educational toys and activities are suggested.  Parents receive monthly handouts.
  • Other activities such as fun fair, book reading, growth monitoring, library sessions and prenatal and post-natal sessions are conducted on regular basis.

ECD MOZAMBIQUE STRUCTURE/TEAM

  • Started in 2014;
  • Currently running 8 centers nationwide;
  • Team of 85 trained facilitators and 2 master trainers.

ONLINE LEARNING SUPPORT IN THE COVID-19

  • 3 monthly activities and important discussion points for the month are given, along with parent handouts that are shared with ECD parents by the facilitators.
  • Video/audio call to explain the details of the activities are conducted. 
  • Parents then send videos or pictures of the activity conducted with their child to the facilitators.
