The Auckland leadership hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with extended community and civic leaders.

 
The occasion highlighted the affirmation of the shared values of generosity, compassion, pluralism, inclusiveness and kindness that the Ismaili Community in New Zealand shares with the wider society and practiced through engagements such as an annual Ramadan food drive with the Salvation Army, blood drives with the Red Cross and “The Adopt a Family”, Christmas hamper donation.

 Ms Tayyaba Khan,  Community Engagement Manager from the Office of Ethnic Affairs delivered the key note address reiterating the pluralistic ethos of the gathering and the importance of building bridges across diverse communities.
 
The guests were presented with the opportunity to learn more about the Ismaili community’s values and ethics in action through an exhibition and video presentation of Mawlana Hazar Imam, founder of the AKDN (Aga Khan development network) over 60 years of his Imamat.  The discussions of the cultural, economical, educational and health projects of the Aga Khan Development Network provided the guests with greater insight for the for the work carried out to build self-reliance and enhance the quality of life of the communities involved.
