With the increase in the number of cases of CV-19, the lack of capacity of the hospitals and the number of hospitalizations, the President of the Republic of Mozambique has addressed the Nation to announce new measures that will be in place over a period of twenty one (21) days starting from 15 January 2021 aimed at avoiding further propagation of the virus and protect the people from the serious health conjuncture under which the country is undergoing

Some of the key measure worth noting are as follows:

  • Beaches are closed;
  • Private events limited to 30 participants or 50 (outdoor and with 2.0 meters of distance);
  • Weddings and birthday parties should finish by 8 p.m.;
  • Meetings and conferences are authorized limited to 50 persons;
  • Funerals up to 20 participants. The limit is 10 in case the deceased was infected by CV19;
  • Expired documents are deemed valid until 31 March 2021;
  • Gyms, public swimming pools are suspended;
  • Cultural activities (i.e. cinema, theatre, museums, etc.) are suspended; and
  • Home office should be encouraged and mandatory in certain cases.

Infringement of the above-mentioned measures qualify as crime of disobedience and transgression and punished under the laws. It may attract the payment of fines and judicial proceedings.
