The President of the Republic of Mozambique has addressed the Nation to announce new stricter measures to be in place for a period of thirty (30) days starting from 5 February 2021.

The aforesaid measures were approved by the Council of Ministers by Decree No. 2/2021, of 4 February 2021.

The following key measures are worthnoting, as follows:

  • curfew in the Cities of Maputo, Matola, Boana and Marracuene between 21:00 and 4:00. The curfew does not apply to: (i) workers whose professional activity is strictly connected to the public interest and thus does not allow for interruptions, (ii) travels to obtain healthcare assistance and (iii) other similar activities or force majeure events ou urgent needs duy justified;
  • worship places, conferences, meetings and religious cerimonies are closed / suspended nation-wide for thirty (30) days;
  • the timetable for markets is between 6:00 to 17:00;
  • State events should be limited to 50 persons, save for specific cases expressy authorized by the competent authorities;
  • It is prohibited hospital visits to patients infected with CV-19;
  • the use of visors does not substitute facial masks, the latter being mandatory in public places, markets, shoppings, common areas and every places with gatherings;
  • the timetable of large surface commercial establishments (“estabelecimentos comerciais de grande superfície”) is the following: (i) Monday – Saturday: from 9 to 19:00 and (ii) Sunday: from 9 to 16. The other commercial establishments shall maintain the normal working hours.
