The government of Mozambique is continuously trying to help population in various ways so that in these testing time Mozambicans can get through them. As the virus continues to spread and Mozambique in its third month of State of Emergency, with recession increasing the government has taken some measures to help people.
The Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic on 25th of May 2020, passed the bill that will exempt sugar, vegetable oil and soap from Value Added Tax (VAT) or IVA. This exemption will last until 31st of December 2020. The exemption will ensure that these necessary items are available for people at affordable prices.
Some of the other essential goods are already exempted from VAT or IVA – including maize, maize flour, rice, wheat, bread, iodized salt, powdered milk for infants, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, kerosene and cooking gas.
The government’s commitment to ease out situation for the population during this pandemic is visible as government is trying to fight against these tough times. As we are all aware that we are part of an economy which is already struggling and every little contribution from the government’s end should be appreciated.
