The Aga Khan Development Network is delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of California, Los Angeles' David Geffen School of Medicine for intellectual stimulation and support in establishing world class standards of healthcare across AKDN institutions in East Africa.

This MOU signed by the Aga Khan Health Services, East Africa and Aga Khan University on July 11, 2017, builds on the Agreement of Cooperation signed by Mawlana Hazar Imam in 2009 with the Governor of California.

The MOU aims at fostering common objectives in building capacity for health services delivery and health sciences education and research.  The arrangement envisions exciting projects such as telemedicine linkages and observerships in clinical as well as administrative areas followed by exchange of faculty and senior fellows.

UCLA ranks among America's best medical institutions of higher learning and care, with its School of Medicine ranked 6th for primary healthcare and 11th for healthcare research by US News and World Report.

The MOU was signed by John Mazziotta, Vice Chancellor on behalf of UCLA and Sulaiman Shahabuddin, AKHS East Africa Regional CEO and Robert Armstrong, Dean, AKU East Africa on behalf of the AKDN.
