Cricket update

Sports action update from the Golden Jubilee Games in Nairobi, Kenya.

Pakistan played like real contenders today as they convincingly beat Canada by nine wickets at Simba Union cricket ground. Having lost the toss, the Pakistani bowlers were very accurate and despite a couple of dropped catches, managed to restrict Canada to only 107 on the pitch which has so far seen the most runs scored. In response the Pakistanis were ruthlessly efficient, offering almost no chances and sealing the win in the 12th over against Canada's all spin attack.

Once again a strong performance in the field was the basis of victory for the United Kingdom who today beat Afghanistan by 4 wickets. UK bowled out Afghanistan for 88 and would have liked to complete a quick run chase in order to skip the playoffs, but this was not to be. The Afghanis bowled with real spirit to reduce UK's run rate giving them a morning game against Kenya B tomorrow.

USA Blue proved that their victories against UAE and Kenya B were no fluke as they beat India to place them firmly at the top of the seedings. India still managed to make fourth seed so they too have the morning off tomorrow before they will probably play fifth seed UK in what will undoubtedly be a close encounter. USA Red also achieved automatic qualification from the playoffs after they beat Portugal today to make it 3 wins out of 3 in their group.

Kenya A beat Uganda today to rather coincidentally set up a rematch in the playoffs tomorrow. UAE finally got a deserved win over Kenya B after two narrow defeats against USA Blue and India. They will now play Portugal in the playoffs.
