In Afghanistan, AKDN agencies have a longstanding engagement with a wide range of activities including healthcare, education, early childhood development, agriculture, rural infrastructure and economic opportunity, energy provision, climate resilience, telecommunications, cultural heritage conservation and hospitality.

AKDN’s operations are designed to adapt to evolving contexts and circumstances to ensure sustainability, effectiveness and efficiency. Based in Kabul, Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Envoy, Akbar Pesnani, and the President of the Ismaili National Council for Afghanistan, Amir Baig, also appointed by Hazar Imam, will maintain ongoing co-ordination with the authorities, local communities, donor agencies and other stakeholders who have supported AKDN’s programmes and initiatives over the past several decades.
