In promoting the sanctity of human life, the Qur'an-e Shariff says that good health, like knowledge, is a divine gift. The family unit nurtures the lives of its members, assisting them in their physical and spiritual endeavours. The wellbeing of individuals, in-turn, contributes to the overall health of the family, and that of society at large.
His Excellency President Michael Higgins of Ireland and his wife Sabina Mary Coyne, today received Mawlana Hazar Imam at their official residence Áras an Uachtaráin. The occasion honoured Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee, which concluded last month.
Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Houston yesterday for the second stop of his Diamond Jubilee visit to the United States. Upon his arrival, Hazar Imam was welcomed with a sabre salute by the Texas A&M Ross Volunteers, the State of Texas’ official honor guard.
Hurricane Harvey has been referred to as a "1,000-year flood," with its 50 inches of rainfall exceeding all records for the continental USA. It is estimated that damage from the storm will surpass that of hurricanes Sandy (New Jersey 2012) and Katrina (Louisiana 2005) combined. Two ceremonies were held to commemorate Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah’s Diamond Jubilee – the first on 10 March 1946 in Bombay and the second on 17 August 1946 in Dar es Salaam. Most of the Jamat today will not have first-hand memories of the ceremonies, though they captured public imagination at the time and were widely covered by the media as the world began to rebuild itself following the war.
Since the earliest days of Islam, the Shia notion of nazrana — the offering of an unconditional gift to the Imam of the Time as a gesture of a murid’s love and homage — has been a time-honoured tradition in the Jamat.
