His Excellency President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited the Aga Khan Academy in Maputo on 13 January, while in Mozambique for the inauguration of its new President. He was accompanied by Ms Teresa Ribeiro, Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Portuguese Government, and Ms Maria Amélia de Paiva, Portugal’s Ambassador to Mozambique.

Up close, a jewel is made up of a number of facets, each producing intriguing patterns, which help the gem to shine. Nestled amid flourishing trees, a flowing river, and a formidable mountain range, the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre in Khorog adds another facet to the ‘Jewel of the Pamir.’

Guests at the reception listen attentively to the speeches, including the Ambassador of Portugal to Mozambique, Ms Maria Amélia de Paiva, and the Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Portuguese Government, Dr Teresa Ribeiro in the first row.

The Aga Khan Development Network hosted a reception in Maputo, Mozambique, last month, to celebrate Imamat Day with guests and members of the Jamat, and to raise awareness of AKDN’s work in the region.
