Mawlana Hazar Imam looks on as University of Calgary President Dr Elizabeth Cannon reads aloud the citation accompanying the honorary Doctor of Laws degree conferred upon him in a special ceremony at the University’s Rozsa Centre. The citation highlighted Hazar Imam’s outstanding contributions to humanity and expressed admiration for his ability to bring together faith and action.

The University of Calgary conferred Mawlana Hazar Imam with its highest academic honour: a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, reserved for the most distinguished individuals who have made extraordinary achievements in community, national, or international services. 

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrives in Calgary with Prince Aly Muhammad following the inauguration of the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta earlier in the day. He was received by Ismaili Council for the Prairies President Fauzia Lalani upon his arrival.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Calgary on October 16 for the second leg of his visit to Canada, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad. Upon his arrival, Hazar Imam was greeted by President of the Ismaili Council for the Prairies Fauzia Lalani.

Mawlana Hazar Imam joined Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Lois Mitchell, Premier of Alberta Rachel Notley, and University of Alberta President David Turpin on 16 October for the inauguration of the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta.

Mawlana Hazar Imam is greeted by President of the Ismaili Council for Edmonton, Zahra Somani, upon arriving in Edmonton for the inauguration of the Aga Khan Garden, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Edmonton today, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad, to begin a visit to Canada that will include the inauguration ceremony of the Aga Khan Garden in Edmonton as well as degree conferral ceremonies in Calgary and Vancouver.

Water, an important element of traditional garden design in Islamic landscapes, is highlighted in 12 water features and fountains throughout the Aga Khan Garden in Edmonton.

The Aga Khan Garden, Alberta, was inaugurated on Tuesday 16 October 2018 in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam. The Garden joins a network of parks and gardens that have been established around the world through the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC).
