A delegation from the Ismaili Council for Afghanistan travelled to Bamyan in December 2018 to join the Jamat there in celebrating the occasion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s 82nd birthday.

Nestled amid flourishing trees, a flowing river, and a formidable mountain range, the newly opened Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre in Khorog is a long-awaited blessing for the Jamat of Tajikistan.

Meet Samandar. Born and raised in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast region of Tajikistan to a Pamiri Ismaili family where music was appreciated and practiced daily.

Bamyan, Afghanistan, 24 April 2017 — Princess Zahra and Vice President Sarwar Danesh opened a 141-bed hospital facility today. Emphasising the health of mothers and children, the facility expands Bamyan Provincial Hospital’s capacity to deliver much needed services in obstetrics and gynecology, paediatrics and surgery.

Once relegated to folklore and theatre, traditional Pamiri clothing styles are making a comback.

The evolution in choice of dress among the Ismailis of Gorno-Badakhshan in Tajikistan is reflective of wider changes and influences that have affected that society over the past decades. The recent re-emergence of Pamiri dress speaks to a rediscovery of local heritage.
