Over 500 delegates from the Jamats of Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa gathered for the launch of the Ismaili Economic Forum (IEF) held in Nairobi in April 2019. The Forum was organised to bring together Ismaili businesses, professionals, and entrepreneurs, to discuss and respond to rapid change in Africa and advancements in technology on the continent, and to build economic and knowledge capacity within the Jamat.
The Jamat in Kenya, alongside other faith communities, recently participated in the Festival of Friendship 2018, in a show of unity, cultural diversity, and friendly competition.
In a moment that was uniquely historic for the entire Jamat, Mawlana Hazar Imam granted a Diamond Jubilee Darbar in Nairobi, Kenya on the very same grounds where the Imam had been installed during his Takht Nashini in 1957 when he acceded to the Imamat. This was also the same site where Mawlana Hazar Imam celebrated both his Silver and Golden Jubilees.
The film of Mawlana Hazar Imam's Diamond Jubilee visit to Kenya is now available online. This 37-minute film recounts the history of the Ismaili community in East Africa, preparations by the Jamat, and the programme undertaken by Hazar Imam during his visit to the country in April 2018. The visit brought together Jamats from the jurisdictions of Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Republic of Malagasy.
Mawlana Hazar Imam today arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi for his Diamond Jubilee visit to Kenya.
