Cholesterol: Know it - Lower it!

National Cholesterol Week in the UK takes place between 19–25 September 2011, and aims to promote awareness of raised cholesterol levels, which are a major cause of cardiovascular disease. This is the first installment of a two-part article by Baldeesh Rai, Dietetic Advisor to Heart UK, with tips on lowering your cholesterol.

At a banquet in San Francisco on 26 April, Mawlana Hazar Imam was presented with the 2011 University of California San Francisco Medal. The prestigious recognition builds on existing collaborations between the UCSF and AKDN, and particularly the University’s support for training and research programmes at the Aga Khan University.

East Meets Western, a new television documentary about the Ismaili community and the Calgary Stampede, describes two seemingly disparate cultures that have built a successful relationship based on shared values. The film showcases the volunteerism, creativity and organisational skills of the Jamat, and highlights the historical role that the Stampede has played in promoting cultural pluralism in Calgary.
