Mawlana Hazar Imam shares a light moment with Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

On a crisp autumnal morning in London’s King’s Cross, Mawlana Hazar Imam welcomed Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the Aga Khan Centre, for a special event to celebrate the culture and heritage of Pakistan, and the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora to British society.

At the Aga Khan Centre on 2 October 2019, Mawlana Hazar Imam hosted Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The special event provided a platform for guests whose interests and engagements encompass the wide-ranging relationship between the UK and Pakistan, including members of the Pakistani diaspora making a meaningful contribution to society in the United Kingdom and beyond. 

Anusha Sadruddin, Maliha Ali, Shabina Shah, and Muskan Nisar from the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School in Hunza were awarded a prize for their Book Buddies application.

The first ever Technology Fair was held in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, established by Techscape in collaboration with Accelerate Prosperity Pakistan. Tech Fairs, Hackathons, and Boot Camps are events designed to bring technology enthusiasts together to meet and engage in collaborative computer programming.

Renowned artists and composers Salim and Sulaiman Merchant have obtained accolades in the Indian film industry and have performed in a number of prominent spaces including at the opening ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Their memorable songs such as ‘Jubilee Mubarak’, ‘Ali Mawla’, and ‘Shukran Allah’, which were performed on the occasion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee, still resonate in our minds. To coincide with the upcoming Aga Khan Music Awards, we spoke with the two brothers about their journey.

Situated in the mountains of Northern Pakistan, two new Jamatkhanas were opened last month in the valleys of Ishkoman and Puniyal in Gilgit-Baltistan. The inauguration ceremonies were attended by over 5,000 members of the Jamat.
