In promoting the sanctity of human life, the Qur'an-e Shariff says that good health, like knowledge, is a divine gift. The family unit nurtures the lives of its members, assisting them in their physical and spiritual endeavours. The wellbeing of individuals, in-turn, contributes to the overall health of the family, and that of society at large.
A concert titled, The Art of the Afghan Rubab, took place in partnership with the Asia Society Texas Center, the Aga Khan Music Initiative and the Ismaili Council for the United States. The concert was held on October 11, and featured the Aga Khan Master Musicians, who create music inspired by their own deep roots in the cultures of the Middle East and Mediterranean Basin, South Asia, Central Asia, and China.
The Houston branch is the third largest Consular Corps in the United States after Washington, DC and New York City. On Friday, June 7, 2019, the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center hosted the inaugural Houston Consular Corps luncheon in Sugar Land, Texas. Over 90 countries were represented to engage in discussions on economic development by fostering foreign relations. Amongst the attendees were guest speakers Fort Bend County Judge KP George, Ambassador Juan B. Sosa, Consul General of Panama and Dean of the Consular Corps of Houston, and Jeffrey C. Wiley, President & CEO of the Fort Bend Economic Development Council.
The annual Ignite Summit, organised by the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board in Canada, was held in Calgary earlier this year. Each instalment of the conference is hosted for entrepreneurs to meet, discuss themes of relevance, and exchange ideas. The Leadership Training Program (LTP), an initiative of the National Council for the USA, was designed to inspire and empower the leaders of tomorrow. At the end of June 2019, twenty-nine attendees from Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Syria participated in the final session of the program. LTP created encouraged participants in ways to contribute to the progress of the Jamat both in the US and their countries of origin.
The Sugar Land City Council Candidates Forum was organized by the League of Women Voters and the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, and held at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center, on Saturday April 20, 2019.
