Mawlana Hazar Imam looks on as University of Calgary President Dr Elizabeth Cannon reads aloud the citation accompanying the honorary Doctor of Laws degree conferred upon him in a special ceremony at the University’s Rozsa Centre. The citation highlighted Hazar Imam’s outstanding contributions to humanity and expressed admiration for his ability to bring together faith and action.

The University of Calgary conferred Mawlana Hazar Imam with its highest academic honour: a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, reserved for the most distinguished individuals who have made extraordinary achievements in community, national, or international services. 

University of Calgary Chancellor Deborah Yedlin presents Mawlana Hazar Imam with the University’s highest academic degree, a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to humanity.

Mawlana Hazar Imam was awarded with an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Calgary, its highest academic honour, on 17 October 2018. Watch highlights from the event here.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrives in Calgary with Prince Aly Muhammad following the inauguration of the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta earlier in the day. He was received by Ismaili Council for the Prairies President Fauzia Lalani upon his arrival.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Calgary on October 16 for the second leg of his visit to Canada, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad. Upon his arrival, Hazar Imam was greeted by President of the Ismaili Council for the Prairies Fauzia Lalani.

Rays of Light: Glimpses into the Ismaili Imamat, will be open to visitors from December 27-31, 2017 in Austin, Texas.

The evening was moderated by Jessica Johnson, Senior Editor at The Walrus magazine.
