Bone Marrow Recruitment Drive

Saturday 20 April & Sunday 21 April 11am-3pm

Location: EMCC Conference Suites 1A, 1B, 1C

Did you know, if you are Caucasian and need a bone marrow transplant, you have a 75% chance of finding a matching donor in the UK?

If you are Asian, your chances drop to as low as 25%.

Leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood disorders - these diseases require a bone marrow transplant, and they do not differentiate between Caucasians and Asians.

Over the ESF weekend, Aga Khan Health Board will be running a bone marrow recruitment drive signing individuals up to the National Bone Marrow Register.  If you are between 16 and 30 and in good health, pop in for a chat, to learn more about what bone marrow donation involves and what exactly it means for you and for those you will be donating to.

Individuals who have received and donated bone marrow, will be present to share their experiences.

Mindfulness

Did you know that paying more attention to the present moment - to your own thoughts and feelings, and to the world around you - can improve your mental well-being?

Do you know how to stop and be in the present moment?

Join the Aga Khan Health Board for one of the taster sessions being held across the weekend, learning about Mindfulness and practicing techniques to help you improve your mental well-being. Visit our Daytime Activities page for further details on the Mindfulness for Stress Workshop.

Nutrition

The first step towards a healthier lifestyle, is to know what you are putting in your body, and it's positive or negative impact.  During the ESF weekend, the Aga Khan Health Board in collaboration with the Ismaili Nutrition Centre will aim to keep you informed about the nutritional content of the food that is being served.

There will be healthy eating tips around the dining areas, and other eye catching graphics with key messages such as what to eat to keep energy levels up during a full day of sports.
