Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Houston today for the second stop of his Diamond Jubilee visit to the United States. Upon his arrival, Mawlana Hazar Imam was given a sabre salute by the Texas A&M Ross Volunteers, the State of Texas’ official honor guard who were also present during his Golden Jubilee visit to Texas in 2008.

Hazar Imam was greeted by Rolando Pablos, Secretary of State for the State of Texas; Deanea LeFlore, Chief of Protocol for the City of Houston; Joe Zimmerman, Mayor of the City of Sugar Land, as well as Jamati leaders.

The honor guard’s presentation was followed by performances of the Nashid al-Imamah and the US National Anthem. Institutional Leadership from across Central and Southwestern United States were also present to welcome Hazar Imam.

Secretary Pablos ​welcomed Hazar Imam, thanking him for his vision and leadership. He later commented on the Ismaili community​'s commitment to strengthening ​Texas through service, entrepreneurship, and leadership​,​​ and ​noted the continuing partnerships​ between them.

Whilst at the airport, Sugar Land’s Mayor Zimmerman presented Mawlana Hazar Imam with the Key to the City of Sugar Land, in recognition of Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee.​ ​

Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit to Houston includes a meeting with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, a reception with State of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Mulaqats with the Jamats of Central and Southwestern United States.
