The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, received Mawlana Hazar Imam at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Presidential Estate in Rajpath, New Delhi.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Hazar Imam and President Kovind to discuss cooperation in areas of common interest, building upon the longstanding partnership between India and the Ismaili Imamat.

In a press release, President Kovind said Hazar Imam “has lead with great humility and has been a shining example of goodness for humanity,” and offered his congratulations on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee. President Kovind also acknowledged the complementary nature between India’s flagship initiatives and AKDN programmes in the country, including heritage conservation, women’s empowerment, rural development, and urban renewal. He said “India appreciates AKDN for helping in several restoration projects,” including Sunder Nursery, which was inaugurated yesterday by Hazar Imam.

Mawlana Hazar Imam is in India at the official invitation of the Government of India. The visit coincides with the commemoration of his Diamond Jubilee. Hazar Imam is later scheduled to travel to Gujarat where alongside activities relating to Imamat initiatives, he also plans to meet with the Jamat.
