The Ismaili Centre reflects the commitment of His Highness the Aga Khan to Toronto and Canada and is not only a place of gathering for prayer but also a space for intellectual dialogue. This is a site of varied spaces for contemplation and cultural and educational activity. The prayer hall is composed of structural steel trusses of various depths and dimensions which are covered by a double layer of glass. The dome roof lights up the skyline, rising in the shape of an inverted cone and pieced together to form a translucent fractal skin. A large foyer connects the prayer hall and social hall, which has a two-storey high ceiling. The descending glass roof fills it with natural light with doors that open to a spacious stone terrace and garden. The lounge, library and classrooms are on the main floor while the upper level is home to administrative offices and a formal boardroom.
