The Outreach Portfolio under the ISMAILI CIVIC banner distributed food during Ramadan to 1,000 families in Kampala, Uganda.

In the Spirit of Ramadan and brotherhood, the Outreach Portfolio of the Uganda Jamat under the ISMAILI CIVIC banner continued our centuries old tradition of serving humanity by rendering voluntary service, raising funds and distributing food to improve the quality of life of the communities in which we live, regardless of faith, gender and background.

As a community the Uganda Jamat raised enough money to buy and donate 7,000KG of various dry foods to 1,000 Muslim families. Each family received packets of rice, posho, sugar, and soap. This endeavour reflects the community’s ethic of civic engagement and good citizenship, exemplifying Islam’s core values of service, peace, compassion and care for the vulnerable.

The focus of the distribution was to families in need who live in the areas around where the Jamat lives. The food was split between Kibuli, Wandegya, and Gadhafi mosque. The volunteers worked closely with the Imams in the area, the Haji Kasule Family, and the Muslim Supreme Council to conduct the distribution in a safe manner.

Thank you to all those who contributed and to the volunteers that helped with organizing and distributing food. It is this support that makes such activities possible and we hope to conduct many such initiatives in the near future under Ismaili Civic and Outreach Portfolio.
